Carmen Electra bows out of ballet bash

Carmen ElectraSeptember 03, 2009

The opening night event at the Mickey Jarson Kaplan Performance Studio at the Cincinnati Ballet Center (1555 Central Parkway, Downtown), kicks off Cincinnati Ballet’s 2009-10 season. "New Works" (continuing through Sept. 20) features five world premieres, four by Cincinnati choreographers.

Rowell doesn't have any Cincinnati ties — as does Carmen Electra, a Princeton High School grad — but the ballet promises that the former American Ballet Theatre dancer, actress (Drucilla Winters in «The Young and the Restless» and Dr. Amanda Bailey in "Diagnosis: Murder") and frequent Oprah Winfrey guest, will add plenty of pizzazz to the night.

Rowell is also the author of «The Women Who Raised Me,» a memoir of her childhood in the foster system, and is the founder of the Rowell Foster Children's Positive Plan, an organization that provides scholarships and other support to foster children. Among her many awards: a National Angel in Adoption by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute and 11 NAACP Image Awards.

The evening’s live performance music includes Cincinnati-based Jake Speed & the Freddies, Peter Adams, and Over the Rhine.

Tickets for the opening night event are $150 (for subscribers add $80 per five-show subscription only) at the Cincinnati Ballet Box Office, 513-621-5282, or online at www.cincinnatiballet.com.
